Teacher Must Haves 2022: Special Education Essentials
Other teacher must have lists don’t always hit the mark for us special educators. There are a lot of things we need to use in our daily lives as teachers that general educators might now. So, here are my top 3 special education essentials that have helped me make my classroom work!
Visual Timer
We all know visuals are important and time can be a hard concept for a lot of our students. So, this visual timer is a no-brainer if you are looking to make your days go more smoothly. Simply set it to the amount of time you want it to count down from and then you, your paras, and students can easily see the time winding down and can prepare for the next transition. This Time Timer Original is great because it is compact and can easily sit on a desk and does not need to be hung on the wall!
Velcro Dots (My favorite special ed teacher must have for 2022!)
I know you already have velcro. Bottom drawer in the back under the binders, right? You don’t want anyone getting their hands on your precious stash. Velcro dots are a game changer from traditional velcro strips. The dots make adding velcro to any materials super convenient. No scissors required. Peel off the dot, apply, and you’re done! Light Covers
Lot of our students have sensitivities and the harsh fluorescent lights can definitely be aversive. Easily switch up the lighting in your room with these light weight light covers. They simply attach via magnets over the light meaning easy installation as well as easy removal when maintenance is needed. These have helped so much in my room!
